Joe Napier, 82 of Poinciana, FL passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2023. Joe was born on January 24, 1941 in Kenvir, KY to the late Rebecca Napier and the late William Ginter. He joined the US Army on April 27, 1959, were he completed basic training and became an expert marksman and paratrooper. He served with distinction during the Vietnam War. Where he obtain many medals and awards including two purple hearts and the Cross of Gall w/ Palm. After retiring from the military on April 30, 1982 he continued his military service and was an Army ROTC instructor in Indianapolis. His next career was the United States Post Office where he worked for the next 22 years. After retirement moved to Florida with his wife Wilma of 41 years. He enjoyed gardening, and taking care of the local wildlife especially the cranes. A member of Indianapolis Lodge 669 F. & A.M. , Joe was also member of the Poinciana Christian Church.
He is preceded in death by his brothers Hayes, Brown, Andrew (Jay), Wilse, Ulyssis and sister Laura (Jen) Lockhart and son-in-law Howie Sturgill.
Joe is survived by his wife Wilma, his children Tim (Peggy), Terry (Mary), Tom, Pam Sturgill, Rebecca Tietgens (Brett) ; step children Doug Aldridge (Roz), Debi Haynes (David), 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Frances Nunley and Alice Middleton.
Celebration of life will be conducted from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Friday (Feb. 24) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home of Harlan. Military rites will be observed at 6:30 pm Friday (Feb.24) at the Funeral Home by the Harlan Honor Guard.
