Howard Buchanan

Howard Dewayne Buchanan, 60 of Evarts passed away on Thursday morning of December 12, 2019 at the Hazard ARH.

Howard was born August 16, 1959 in Harlan to the late Rev. Clifford & Lillian Parker Buchanan. He was a retired coal miner and member of the Closplint Church of God. He was a Veteran of the United States Marines. He loved to fish and loved to cook out on the grill and always had a smile and kind word to say, he loved to raise a garden and would give food out of it to others. He knew the Bible and he loved the Lord and his family with all of his heart. He loved to listen to Christian Music, and would share it with family and friends.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his grandmother, Laura Parker; grandfather, Rev. Howard Parker and great niece Annaka Jane Caudill

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Regena Buchanan; sisters, Tammy Shackleford and Donna Riley and fiancé, Paul Hale, Jr; a very special aunt who he thought of as a mother, Thelma Witt; nieces and nephews, Clifford Pennington, Leslle Pennington, Bethany Rainey, Christopher Caudill, Kristie Burgen; great nieces and nephews, Kailey, Bradley, Mason, Bryson, Isabella and Joshua; best friend, Bruce Short, Sr; special friends, Linda Sheets and Francis Lamb; brother in laws, Everett Griffith, Charles West; sister in laws, Paula, Kathy, Janet, and Kim.

Visitation will be after Sunday (Dec. 15) 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday (Dec. 16) in the chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Howard & Rev. Glenn Hayes officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens at Verda, KY. Military Rites will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Clifford Pennington, Luke Huff, Smokey Eatman, Bruce Short, Sr, Paul Hale, and Christopher Caudill.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home to help with burial cost.
