William D. Howard

William D. (Bill) Howard, 75 of Grays Knob, KY passed away on Wednesday May 21, 2025 at the Johnson City Medical Center.

Bill was born January 5, 1950 at Coalgood, KY to the late Dexter and Lillie Mae Strunk Howard. He was a retired coal miner. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served his country during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Howard Lodge 819 F & AM and a Shriner. Bill never met a stranger and was always going above and beyond for people that he knew.

In recent years you could see Bill riding down the road in his big red Radio Flyer wagon never turning anyone away who wanted to take a ride in it.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Cundiff Howard; siblings, Beulah Watkins, Carolyn Johnson, Margaret Warf and Sue Smith.

He is survived by his son, Little Bill Howard and wife Candy; daughter Katina Hendrix and husband Rufus; grandchildren, Allie (Aaron) Jones, Ryan (Chelsea) Howard, Madison Hendrix, Drew (Sidney) Howard, Bailey Hendrix, and Hannah Howard; great grandchildren, Rayna, Oakland, Kadence, Wrenly and Luna; his brother, Bobby Howard and lots of special friends he truly cared for (too many to list).

Visitation will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Saturday (May 24) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm Saturday (May 24) in the Chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Sean Daniels and Rev. Franklin Stewart officiating. Music will be by Lawana Blevins.

Due to it being Memorial Day weekend the Graveside service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday (May 27) at the Resthaven Cemetery Chapel with Brian Howard, Ryan Howard, Drew Howard, Mark Shepherd, Dakota Irvin, Chris Brewer and Chadd Dodson serving as Pallbearers. Military rites will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.

He the will be laid to rest beside of his beloved wife, Shirley.
