Obituary

William (Bill) Joseph Lisenbee, 88, of Rio Vista, KY, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Tri Cities Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Cumberland, KY.

Bill was a 1956 graduate of Loyall High School and a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Arch Coal, where he worked for more than 30 years. Bill was a member of the Loyall Church of Christ and the Harlan Honor Guard. He was an avid fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Harlan County Black Bears. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, and walking his dogs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Ella Baker Lisenbee; two brothers, Robert and Glenn Lisenbee; and his parents, William C. Lisenbee and Thelma Lay Lisenbee.

He is survived by his son, Scott (Tanda) Lisenbee; he was PA to Ella Lisenbee (his angel baby), Deacon Lisenbee, Luke Lisenbee, and Hunter McCauley; his sisters, Barbara Ann Hickey (Lynn) and Lisa Lisenbee (Jim) Pickett. He is also survived by his special cousin, Jim (Katie) Lisenbee; a host of nieces and nephews; countless special friends, loved ones and his brothers of the Harlan Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, 114 South 3rd Street, Harlan, KY 40831.

Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, in the chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Morris officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Harlan Honor Guard immediately following the funeral service.

A private burial will be held at Lisenbee Cemetery in Baxter, KY.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Pat Miller, Jesse Harris, Jill Harris, Ella Lisenbee and Deacon Lisenbee.
