Ronald M. Rains, 81 of Harlan passed away Thursday May 23, 2013 at the Harlan ARH.

Ron was born October 8, 1931 in Pleasant View, KY to the late Gus and Dorothy Smith Rains. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky Pharmacy School. He was the former owner of Lee Drug and retired Pharmacist at the Harlan ARH pharmacy.

He was a longtime member of the Harlan Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He loved teaching Sunday school, his church and its people serving the Lord. Ron served his country as a Veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Selma Bird.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Evelyn Rains of Harlan; his son, Gary W. (Rose) Rains of Harlan, his daughter, Rhonda Johnson of Harlan; his grandsons, Matthew Johnson of Harlan and Adam Rains of Louisville; his sisters, Carol Wheeler of Knoxville, TN and Sue Hall of Louisville; many nieces, nephews. Ron loved and cherished his family and friends, including special friends, Claude and Shelb Wilson, Jim Robinson, and Mike Forester and the members of the Ron Rains Sunday school class.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to all who have called and visited during Ron’s illness. Your care and kindness will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be Saturday May 25, 2013 from 12 until 2:00 pm at the Harlan Baptist Church.

Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the Harlan Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Pugh officiating.

Private burial will take place at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Pleasant View (Whitley Co.) KY.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the Kitchen Fund of the Harlan Baptist Church, PO Box 883, Harlan, KY 40831 in memory of Ron.
