Millard Ray Tackett

Millard Ray Tackett passed away peacefully Friday March 11, 2016 at The Holston Valley Medical Center. Ray was born, June 12, 1940 at Straight Creek, Bell County, KY to Joner and  Edith Johnson, Tackett and soon moved to Evarts, KY.

Millard Ray went to work at the age of 12 for Walter Farley's Grocery carrying coal to the elderly. At 17, He left Dog Patch Hollow in Evarts, KY and found work at the Tomato Factory and then at National Lead for 9 years in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Millard Ray married, had two daughters and settled in Connersville, IN where he worked at D & M Manufacturing Plant for 26 years. After D & M closed Ray worked for Circle M Construction which included a 3 year project of building a Railroad Pump Station in Swiss City, IN.  Ray worked as a bartender, owned, co-owned and operated several businesses: The Hunter's Still Shoot, Motel, Restaurant Bar, and Flea Barn.  Weekends were full of adventure from horseback riding, boating, riding his Harley with buddies, going out on the lake with family or loading up in the RV. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ray remarried and returned to Harlan 1996 and opened Tackett's Taxi.  In 2005 he opened Ray's Taxi and in 2009 remarried to Vincentina Farley. For the last 20 years Millard Ray Tackett, SR, also known as The Taxi Man, has provided transportation services to dialysis patients, injured workers, burn and cancer patients in addition to local taxi services for Harlan County including the Safe and Sober Program.

Millard Ray Tackett has a large family that extends beyond blood and even though every name is not listed please know you were loved by him. He loved people and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Joner and Edith Johnson Tackett; Siblings: Raymond Tackett, Wilma Hazlet, Joyce Cox Stines, Judy Blevins, Mary Phillips and Alleen Roberts.

Ray leaves behind his loving wife, Vincentina M. Farley. Son, Millard Ray Tackett, JR (TJ) : Son, Justin Ray Carmical (Emily): daughter, Brittany Carmical: Grandsons: Caden, Bryson, and Shane. Granddaughter, Shayla Nevaeh Farley. All of Harlan.  Daughters, Janet McGibbeny and Angie Tackett Foreman of St. Petersburg, FL. Granddaughter: Courtney Tackett Tidwell, great-grandsons Landon and Liam and Grandson Mark Foreman all of Pennsylvania. Sister Linda Tackett of Harlan, Brother Joner (Vicki) Tackett of Connerville, IN, Brother Chuck (Wanda) Tackett of Evarts, KY and Brother Bill (Precious) Tackett of Corbin, KY; a host of loving nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday (March 20) from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home. Services will follow at 3:00 pm with in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Sizemore officiating.
