Mastin (M.G.) Smith

July 1, 1930 — June 14, 2015

Mastin G. Smith, 84 of Harlan passed away Sunday June 14, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

M.G. was born July 1, 1930 in Harlan, KY to the late Mastin G. and Gladys Jeanne Davis Smith. He was a retired Attorney having worked in Real Estate Law. He currently served as a member of the Harlan City Council. He Served on the Boards with the Harlan Tourism Commission and the Cumberland River Behavioral Health, Inc.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Harlan, he had a passion to drive and travel to different areas, a love for classical music and to read in his spare time. He always had a special love for his family and the history that they represented in Harlan Co.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his step father, Paul Emory; and his sister, Elizabeth Welch.

He is survived by his son, Andy (Ginger) Craig of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Graham Craig and Casey Craig both of Birmingham, Alabama; niece’s and nephew, Nancy (Albert) Pope of Versailles, Charlie Welch of Greece, and Joellen (Tony) Lovella of Lexington; he leaves other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing, including a longtime family friend and caregiver, Ronnie Walker of Harlan.

A celebration of M.G.’s life will be Friday, June 19, 2016 at 12:00 pm in the chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Mills officiating.  Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY.

Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the service time at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, PO Box 1734, Harlan, KY 40831or to the Cawood Ledford Boys and Girls Club, 1 Positive Place, Harlan, KY 40831 in his memory.
