Marcella Smith

January 10, 1931 — July 9, 2017

Marcella Jean Ball Smith, 86, of Harlan, Kentucky went to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 9, 2017.  She passed away at Highlandsprings Transitional Care Center of Fort Thomas, Kentucky after complications from a recent injury.  She was born on January 10, 1931 in Ages, Kentucky to the late Logan and Nannie Ball.

She is survived by her children, Shirley Smith Parsons of Raleigh, NC, James M. Smith of Corbin, KY, and Phyllis A. Smith Wilke (husband Ron) of Fort Thomas, KY; brothers and sisters, Virginia Fuson of Dayton, OH, Joe Logan (Cheryl) Ball, Jr. of Dayton, OH, Bobby (Chris) Ball of Dayton, OH, Barbara Ball (Robert) Bailey of TN; and grandchildren, Brian Parson of Raleigh, NC, David Parsons of Willow Springs, NC, Doug Parsons of Wilmington, NC, RJ Phillips of Corbin, KY, Jennifer Smith of Corbin, KY, Logan Wilke of Miami, FL, and Reagan Wilke of Fort Thomas, KY/Nashville, TN.  Survivors also include 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Smith, Jr.; daughter, Linda Darlene Smith; sister, Evelyn Ball; brothers, Marvin Ball, Billy Ball, and Preston Ball; niece Sonda Rose; and nephews Billy Ball, Jr. and Keith Ball.

She not only believed the Pentecostal Faith but lived it every day.  She attended Molus Pentecostal Church.  She enjoyed working with the public and was a longtime employee of JJ Newberry/McCrory Store in downtown Harlan before going to work for Wal-Mart for the last 25 years of her life.  She retired in February of 2017.

A gathering of family and friends will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home at 114 S Third Street, Harlan, Kentucky.  A Funeral Service will be Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.  The Rev. Ray Stepp will be officiating.

Interment will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY.  Grandsons and Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
