Kathy Ann Black, 73, of Liggett, Ky, passed away on Monday July 20, 2026 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Kathy was born in Evarts, Ky on July 17, 1953 to Louis Hatmaker and Imogene Ellis, She was a member of Liggett Baptist Church where she was the Sunday school teacher for many years. She retired from KCEOC where she worked for 39 years. She loved crafting and spending time with her family.

Besides her parents, Kathy is preceded in death by her husband Ed Black, sister Linda Begley, and daughter in law Heather Burkhart.

Kathy is survived by her, two sons Bobby Burkhart of Harlan and Brad Burkhart of Liggett two daughters, Shannon Haase and husband Chris, of Lexington. Sheryl Black of Knoxville; Six grandchildren Autumn Sweet Doolittle and husband Shane of Georgia, Benjamin Sweet of Knoxville, Katelyn Burkhart, Allyssa, Adam, and Gabi Burkhart all of Harlan. 1 great granddaughter, Claire Doolittle.

Visitation will be 12:00 pm-2:00 pm Friday July 24, 2026 at Anderson Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm in the chapel at Anderson Laws & Jones Funeral Home. Music will be provided by Lawana Blevins. 

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY with family and friends serving as Pallbearers.
