John G. Ingram, Jr. Age 96, of Knoxville, TN formerly of Harlan, KY went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, after an extended battle with heart disease and Macular Degeneration which caused blindness. Beloved husband and father, John was born to John Grant Ingram and Effie Smith Ingram on November 23, 1929.

  After graduating Harlan High School and Electrical Vo-Tech training he began working at the Harlan Post office briefly before joining the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He then returned to the Post office where he retired after 30 years service. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Rev. Ted J. (Mary Lou) Ingram, and a brother-in-law H.D. (Martha) Hurt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years Bettye Hurt Ingram and son Jeff (Gail) Ingram, sister-in-law Rita Hurt Dixon (Bill), nieces Robin Ingram Fuqua (Paul) and Rebecca Ingram Powell (Rich), nephews Dr. Chip (Candice) Dixon and Tyler Hurt. Also survived by nine great nieces and nephews.

  John was a Boy Scout leader who enjoyed hiking, taking the boys on overnight camping and district jamboree camps. He was an active Amateur Radio operator for over 60 years and enjoyed playing golf and traveling after retirement. Though John lost his sight, much of his strength, and his independence, he never lost his trust in God, his love for family, his patient, cheerful attitude, nor his gracious, humble spirit. His sense of humor was enjoyed by all around him. They especially relished hearing him quote scripture, poems, witty sayings, and songs from his childhood and younger days.

  John and Bettye attended  First Presbyterian Church of Harlan for the last several years before moving to Knoxville. There will be a memorial service at the church in Harlan on Friday August 28th at 1:30 pm.

   Graveside services will be private at Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, KY.
