Jerry W. Owens

Jerry W. Owens, 77 of Loyall, KY passed away on Saturday October 4, 2025 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY.

Jerry was born February 9, 1948 in Harlan to the late Laymon and Helen Bennett Owens. A lifelong resident of Harlan Co and was a member of the House of Mercy in Wallins. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, he joined in 1967 where he did active duty in the Republic of Vietnam from 1968 - 1970. He served with the 18th Combat Engineer Brigade and the 577th Engineer Battalion where he obtained the Rank of Specialist 5th Class and was a decorated Soldier receiving the Army Commendation for Valor, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Purple Heart. He was retired salesman for Flowers Bakery, enjoyed taking trips, loved the Lord and his beloved dog "Susie".

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ina Lynn Owens; brothers, Jimmy and Tom Owens; sister, Norma Cornett.

He is survived by his children, Nicole (Paul) Hoskins and Danny (Tammie) Ausmus, Billy (Jessie) Ream, Christopher (Sheri) Ream; grandchildren, Kelly Beth Hoskins and Zac Collett, Joseph Saylor, Shelbi Ausmus and Danny Ausmus, Amber Ward Ream, Christopher Ream, Jr. Nicholas, Nikyle, Nithaniel, Naden Ream; great grandchildren, Eli Ausmus, Connor Ausmus, Ambrose, Greyson, Ian, Issac, Ava, Aubree, Weston and Wyatt; brother, Ronnie Owens; sister, Mary (Garnett) Howard; leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives to mourn his passing.

Visitation will be 11:00 am - 1:00 pm Thursday (October 9) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, 114 S. 3rd Street Harlan, KY 40831.

Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Hargus Cornett officiating, reading of the obituary by Brad Brock with special music by Seth Carmical. 

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY with Military Rites being observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Zac Collett, Danny Ausmus, Dan Ausmus, Paul Hoskins, Kevin Howard and Justin Owens.
