   Jeremy Jason "Jay" Smith, 48 of Dayhoit, KY passed away October 21, 2023.
   He was born November 23, 1974 in Ohio County, KY to Carlos and Margaret (Widner) Smith. 
   Jay is preceded in death by his parents, his sister; Carla Smith Banegas, grandparents; Olen and Irma Smith, Donnie and Wilma Smith Hurt, and Robert Widner, and uncle; Jerry Widner. 
He graduated from Leslie County High School and moved to Harlan County in 1993 where he started his coal mining career. While working in the mines, Jay was a roof bolter operator then he went on to further his career to become a mine foreman.
   Jay loved to watch sports, especially football. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and kayaking with his brother. He resided in Harlan County for the past 29 years. 
   Jay leaves behind three children, Jeremy, Ambrianna, and Ragan Smith all of Cumberland, KY, his brother; Bobby Smith and wife, Buffy of Wallins, KY, a special nephew; Jordan Smith and wife Rikki. Also surviving are a host of other relatives and friends.
 Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday (Oct. 28) at Resthaven Cemetery Chapel in Keith, KY with Pastor Larry Turner officiating. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.
