Jayne Carr Fulton Brock of Harlan, Kentucky, died peacefully at her home, Sunday, March 8, 2015, following a short illness. She was 96.
Born April 1, 1918 in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, she was a lifetime resident of Harlan. She was a Charter Member of the Harlan Women’s Club, a member of Harlan High School’s first band, Charter Member of the Harlan Country Club Ladies Golf Association, a former Deacon and lifetime member of First Presbyterian church of Harlan. Over the years, she also served the boards of several agencies, including the Cumberland Council of the Girl Scouts. A graduate of Harlan High School, she attended Lincoln Memorial University and Eastern Kentucky University, where she majored in History.
A voracious reader and crossword puzzler, she was also a skilled musician, an avid golfer, and longtime tennis enthusiast. Well known for her quick wit, loyalty, and unique sense of style, she entertained countless friends for decades who gathered with her to share life’s lessons and legends.
The eldest child of the late Baylor H. Fulton and Henrietta Carr Fulton, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ramsey Brock; infant daughter, Katherine Bundy Brock (Kate); sister, Betty Fulton Weiler and beloved brother-in-law, Dr. Sanford L. Weiler, Sr.; and brother, Richard Fulton (Josephine).
Survivors include sons, Ramsey Fulton Brock of Chandler, AZ, Jon Boswell Brock of Knoxville, TN; special niece, Jayne Fulton Weiler Hendrickson of Harlan; granddaughters, Rebecca Brock Holdaway (Brett), Kirksvile, MO, Rachel Brock and Beth Ann Brock, Chandler, AZ; great-grandchildren, Kate Holdaway and Brock Holdaway (unborn), Kirkville, MO.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Kyle Burnette officiating. Special music by acclaimed Knoxville pianist Beverly Kerr will begin at 10:45 AM. The family will receive friends in the church vestibule immediately following the service.
A cancer survivor of 50 years, Mrs. Brock’s body was donated to the Lincoln Memorial University College of Medicine for advanced medical research. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, P.O. Box 189, Harlan, KY 40831.
