James R. Allen 74 of Cranks passed away on Thursday April 11, 2019 at the Veterans Affair Medical Center.
James was born September 20, 1944 in Harlan to the late James and Cora King Allen. He was a retired Electrician and mine Forman having worked many years in the coal mines. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Grays Knob Church of God, previously had been a member of the Cawood Church of God for over 40 years.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Kevin Allen; brothers, Roy, Hubert, & Curt Allen; sisters, Irene Hubbs, Ruby Allen, and Carol Clem.
He is survived by his son, John Allen of Cranks; grandchildren, Cody and Cameron Allen of Middlesboro; brothers, Leon (Betty) Allen of Cranks, Chris (Jennifer) Allen of Grays Knob; sisters, Mary (Frank) Pennington of Keith, Shirley Landa of Catrons Creek, Dorothy (Tim) Skidmore of Cranks, and Thelma (Joe) Gross of Lilly, KY; a special family member who had been to help Jimmy so much in his last days, Tammala King Ball; he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be Sunday (April 14) from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the Cawood Pentecostal Church.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm also at the Cawood Pentecostal Church with Rev. Jerry Collins, Rev. John Carter, and Rev. Jason Powers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Allen Cemetery at Cranks, KY with Military Rites being observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.
