James William Burkhart

James William Burkhart, 96, of Smith KY passed away Monday February 16, 2026 at home with his loving family surrounding home.

James was born on July 8, 1929 in Smith, Ky to the late Herbert Burkhart and Nancy Ledford Burkhart. He proudly served his country as a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He was retired from Chappells Dairy after 38 years and member of the Grays Knob Bible Church. He enjoyed gardening, making furniture in his woodshop, fishing, visiting the sick at the hospital and witnessing the word to people.

Besides his parents he is proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Jackie Sue Burkhart; his brother, Bernard Burkhart and Daughter In Law, Beulah Smith Burkhart.

He is survived by his children for whom he cherished and loved, Spencer Burkhart (Smith, KY), Susie Burkhart Taylor (Smith, KY), Debra (Larry) Hubbs (Bobs Creek, KY) and Denise (Michael) Epperson (Murry, KY). RIck (Marie) Burkhart (Smith, KY); he leaves 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren along with other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm Wednesday (Feb 18) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 6:00 pm with Rev. Larry Johnson and Rev. Bill Moore officiating.

Graveside services will be on Thursday (Feb 19) at 11:00 am at Burkhart Family Cemetery in Smith, Ky. Military Honors will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard. Everyone is to meet at the cemetery just prior to service time.
