James Douglas (Doug) Johnson, 75, of Verda, Kentucky passed away peacefully at his home on April 30, 2026.

Doug was a dedicated member of Verda First Baptist Church and believed in the Baptist faith. Doug was a Veteran in the United States Army and was also a retired coal miner where he worked for 23 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents Clayton and Dorothy Johnson, three brothers, and a granddaughter.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Mary Johnson of Verda, two daughters Tamara Johnson of London, Ky and Sara (Johnson) Smock and husband William (B.J.) of Verda, KY. Five grandchildren Joseph Wright, Jacob Wright, Dorothy Roby, Mikayla Stanley, and Grant Smock and eight great grandchildren.

Doug is also survived by his only lovely sister Gail (Johnson) Ogle and husband John of Louisville, TN.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm on Saturday May 2, 2026 at Anderson Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral will follow at 4:00 pm on Saturday May 2, 2026 at Anderson Laws and Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Danny McCreary.
