James "June"
Carr
June 21, 1951 – June 1, 2026
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
James Carr, Jr., known to nearly everyone as “June,” passed away suddenly on June 1, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born June 21, 1951, in Harlan, Kentucky, to Sarah Louise (Carr) Worthington and James Carr, Sr., one of fourteen children in a large family.
June was the kind of man who never met a stranger. He was kind, funny, and full of love, with a sense of humor that could brighten your day. He was also honest to his core and always true to himself. If he liked you, you knew it. And if he did not, you knew that too. The people who loved him, loved him for exactly who he was. He was also a naturally gifted artist.
He was graduate of Harlan High School and followed that with vocational school, where he honed his skills as an auto body repairman and mechanic. In his early years he was employed at Jim Goins Body Shop. Later in his career, he worked for many years with the Housing Authority of Harlan, where he served as one leader of the maintenance department. He also devoted himself to caring for his elderly mother in her final years, staying by her side until she passed.
Several of June’s closest friends passed on before him, but many remain to carry his memory forward. Anyone who knew him will tell you the same thing: if you knew June, you could not help but love him.
He was preceded in death by his loving mother, Sarah Louise (Carr) Worthington, his father, James Carr, Sr.; his stepfather William Worthington, his grandparents; Frankie Moore and John Dewey Moore; his brothers, Thomas Dewey Carr, Ernest R. Carr, and Lawrence V. Carr; his sisters, Sondra Carr, Sandra Jean Carr, and Hollie (Carr) Trigg; and his special niece, Kasey Tolliver.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brothers, Mike Carr (Katye), Frank Carr (Evelyn), and Phillip Carr; his sisters, Mary Stephens-Jackson, Joni Moore, Connie Macklin, and Yolanda Henderson and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
All services will be private with burial following at Resthaven Cemetery on June 12, 2026.
