Howard Farmer, Jr, 71 passed away suddenly at his beloved home on Mildred Street in Cawood on Saturday afternoon of June 6, 2026.
Howard Jr was born August 1, 1954 in Harlan to the late Rev. Howard Farmer, Sr and Madlene McKeehan Farmer. He was a graduate of the class of 1972 James A. Cawood High School, where he was voted Mr. James A Cawood High School by his senior class. He worked many years as a Coal Miner before becoming an employee of the State of Kentucky working for the Department of Workforce Development. He was a diehard University of Kentucky Wildcat fan, but was best known for his love of Golf, he volunteered at the Harlan Country Club for many years. His smiling face always welcomed you into the Pro Shop before you went out to play around of golf at Harlan. He attended Teetersville Baptist Church.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Martha Carter.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Janie Middleton Farmer; his children, Erica Farmer (Pat) Miller and Eugene Farmer. Brothers, Timothy (Trudy) Farmer; Sisters, Jan Higdon, Joyce (Randy) Johnson, Alice (Mike) Farmer and Laura (Glenden) Caraway; a sister in law, Debbie Nicely; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday (June 10) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, 114 S. 3rd Street, Harlan, KY 40831.
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with his Nephew Rev. John Carter officiating.
Burial will be in the Resthaven Cemetery with the Farmer family serving as Pallbearers.
Flowers are welcomed, but the family request memorials be sent to Teetersville Baptist Church, PO Box 573, Harlan, KY 40831 in memory of Howard Farmer, Jr.
