Henry Frank Doan, age 73 of Harlan, Ky went home to be with the Lord on January 28, 2026, surrounded by his family at home.
Frank was born on August 3, 1952 in Harlan to Mary Helen (nee Pennington) and Otis Doan. A hardworking provider and servant at heart, he labored in the coal mines for many years before retiring. Not one to slow down, he later devoted himself to law enforcement. He rose through the ranks in law enforcement, earning the position of Chief. Later, he continued his service by joining the Sheriff’s Department, where he served as Captain until his retirement.He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by faith, kindness, hard work, and love for family. He had a way of making people feel loved and seen and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Above all, he cherished his family and took great pride in them. He is survived by his loving wife, Merita. Children, Beth Hensley and husband Ryan, Brandy Ford and husband James, Amanda McPherson and husband Chad, Norma Young and husband Rick, Karen Sorrel, and Larry Lloyd. Grandchildren, Harlee Hensley, Emilee Hensley, Aiden Ford, Aspen Ford, Jason Lloyd and wife Crissy, Hannah Housley, Kyndal Lloyd, and Jack Lloyd. A very special cousin, who he loved dearly and thought of as a sister, Rhonda Tyree and husband Doug. And a brother, Dennis Doan and wife Pam.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Helen and Otis Doan, paternal grandparents, Frank and Sally Doan (who raised him), his first wife, Lois Doan, and his siblings, Otis Doan and Bill Doan.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Friday (Feb. 6) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm Friday (Feb. 6) in the Chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Ryan Hensley and Rev. Stanley Blevins officiating. Music will be provided by Stanley and Lawana Blevins and Gail Hensley.
The family suggest memorials be made in Frank's memory to Bluegrass Care Navigators (Hospice), 2972 S. US Highway 25 E, Barbourville, KY 40906 or envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
