Glenn Saylor, 91 of Rosspoint, KY passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday afternoon, October 4, 2025, surrounded by family. Glenn was born January 15, 1934 in Wallins to the late Otis and Lois Fee Saylor. He grew up and attended school in Wallins. He was a member of the Wallins Methodist Church where his father in law served as pastor for nearly 30 years. After high school Glenn joined the Navy and served his country in the Korean War aboard aircraft carriers. He graduated Eastern Kentucky University and taught high school for 27 years. After retiring from teaching he took a job with L & N Railroads (CSX).

He loved his mountain home and took a deep interest in his community. Glenn served for several years on the Harlan County Extension Board. He played a key role in the acquisition of the new buildings when the organization moved from the basement of the courthouse to the current offices on South Main Street. He also served on the Harlan County 4-H Council. He was a lifelong advocate for youth development as well as for community advancement. He also served several years on the Harlan County Literacy Council, serving many roles and was a staunch supporter of the GED program.

Glenn was a steadfast friend, tireless advocate, and supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Appalachia whose quiet generosity continues to touch young lives throughout the region. After visiting the Cawood Ledford Club many years ago, he was moved to help children coping with grief and began supporting the creation of what would become the “Be Great Grief Counseling Program.” His early commitment provided the spark that launched a service now led by a full-time counselor, helping countless youth find healing and hope. Glenn also believed deeply in the Club’s growth, contributing faithfully to the Edward G. Hill Memorial Gymnasium project and working diligently to address transportation challenges by rallying local churches and community partners. Though he never sought recognition, Glenn’s kindness, advocacy, and belief in the mission of the Boys & Girls Club have left a lasting legacy that will continue to shape the lives of children and families across southeastern Kentucky for generations to come.

Glenn was an avid UK Basketball fan, and he cheered for the Harlan County Black Bears. He loved his local gym, PT Pros, attending the work out program for decades.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by 2 grandsons, Evan Glenn Martin and Landon Evan Fuson; brother, Donald Saylor; and his in-laws, Lloyd and Tevis Stokes.

He leaves those to cherish his memory, his beloved wife Barbara Saylor of Rosspoint; 2 daughters, Susan Saylor Yeary of Southern Pines, NC, and Shannon Saylor of Cumberland; 5 grandchildren, Jackson, Riley, Hunter, Savannah and Tad; 2 sisters, Terry (John) Johnson of Ashland and Mary (Stanley) Woods of Corbin.
