Frieda Faye Dotson Madden, 76, of Evarts, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, “She is now with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in heaven.”
She was born March 15, 1949 in Harlan County Kentucky on Sallie’s Branch in Evarts, KY. A true matriarch, Frieda was a dedicated homemaker who always put the needs of her family first. A private person, she found great joy in life's simple pleasures, including tending to her beautiful flowers, caring for her animals, and creating art through her crafts. She treasured the time she spent with her family. Her love and care will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Sallie Dotson, her siblings, Alice Behrens, Eva Evans, Homer Dotson, and her two children, Jimmy and Eric Madden.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, James Harold Madden, of Evarts. She also leaves behind two loving daughters: Michelle Spivey (and husband, Steve) of Louisville, KY, and Melissa Hough (and husband, Rob) of Louisville, KY.
Frieda was a cherished grandmother to her grandchildren: Jamie Madden (and husband, Jacob Glover) of Evarts, KY; Joshua Coe of Fort Worth, TX; Sarah Coe of Louisville, KY; Lily Spivey of Louisville, KY, Emily Hough of Cincinnati, OH; Vika Hough of Louisville, KY; and Joey Hough of Louisville, KY. She is also survived by her beloved sister Barbara Paust of Lawrenceburg, IN and Linda Collins of Cincinnati, OH as well as many nieces, and nephews, “She was a wonderful person and the greatest wife, mom, grandmother and sister, always a blessing, now and forever.”
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, August 26, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Anderson-Laws Jones Funeral Home, 114 S. 3rd Street, Harlan, KY 40831.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 27, at 1:00 PM at the Anderson-Laws Jones Funeral Home with Reverend Woodrow Fields officiating.
Burial will follow at the Evarts Memorial Gardens alongside her beloved boys.
Pallbearers will be Steve Spivey, Rob Hough, Joey Hough, Jacob Glover, Mike Madden, Marvin Pace.
