            Francis (Frank) E. Goodwyn, Esq., JD, LLM, MA, BS, a longtime lawyer in the Harlan County Community, passed away on January 7, 2024 from an extended illness.  Frank was born in Texas Dec 28, 1939 to Francis E. and Elizabeth Goodwyn. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1958 to 1963.  Frank's first Masters degree was in Wildlife Biology.  In 1970 he was the world's expert on the Texas wildcat; the Jaguarundi.

            Frank served as the Harlan County Public Defender for fifteen years.  He later focused his practice on general law.  In 2001 he received his Master of Laws with a specialization in Bankruptcy.   This degree allowed Frank to help many financially struggling families.  Frank served his community as a member of the Harlan County Rotary Club for 35 years supporting its many charitable activities.  He also served as president twice.  Frank was an instrument rated pilot and instructor.  He was an avid reader, turkey hunter, spelunker, hiker, skeet shooter, astronomer, beekeeper, Aquarian husbandman, and soap maker.

            Frank was predeceased in death by his parents; Francis E. Goodwyn and Elizabeth Miller Goodwyn, his sister Janet Goodwyn, and his step-son John B. Saylor.  He is survived by his wife of 48.5 years, Sandra Goodwyn, MAed, BS, his brother and sister-in-law Dr. Lew Wayne Goodwyn, PhD, BS, and Linda Goodwyn, MA, BA, his son Dr. Erik D. Goodwyn, MD, MS, BS (Teresa), two step-children, Dr. Stacy Gluchman, DBA, MBA, BSOE (Don), Andrew T. Saylor, MBA, BBA, nine grandchildren and seventeen great grand children and a host of nieces and nephews.

            You are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held February 22nd, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30pm.  Please join his family at the Wallins Creek Masonic Lodge located at 204 Old Pike Hwy, Coldiron KY 40819.  Additional parking that is handicap accessible is available behind the Masonic Lodge . This can be accessed by the road between the Coldiron Dollar General and the BP gas station.

            In lieu of flowers, donations  may be made in Frank's name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Love to the Rescue, Processing Center, P.O. Box 1570, WV 25438-4510.  Shriners Hospitals treated two of Frank's grand children  at no cost .  Shriners Hospitals do not charge for any treatment given in their hospitals.  For more information visit Shrinerschildrens.org
