Frances A. Ledford

Frances Ann Johnson Ledford, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday June 17, 2018 in Harlan Ky. She was a native of Lynch Ky. and the daughter of the late Thomas and Anna Johnson.  Frances was preceded in death by her “beloved” husband Cawood Ledford, famed broadcaster and former “Voice of the University of Ky. Wildcats”. Also preceding her in death are five siblings; Agnes Sonne, Thomas Johnson, William Johnson, Barbara Hutcheson and James Michael Johnson.

Frances was born September 21, 1927 in Lynch Ky.  She graduated from Nazareth College in Bardstown Kentucky in 1949 with a degree in Home Economics. After teaching in Lynch High School for three years she relocated to Louisville Kentucky to become Business Manager for WHAS radio network in 1952. It was there that she met her husband and soul mate Cawood Ledford and the two were married December 26, 1974.

Frances will always be remembered for her quiet dignity and gracious manner.  Her attention to detail and her ability to make all she met feel special and at ease were always apparent. She was fiercely devoted to her husband and was a confidant and pillar of strength to him throughout his career. Frances dedication to her community was inst rumental in development of the Harlan Boys and Girls Club and the Cawood Ledford Memorial Library.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews, and very dear friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 am until the funeral hour at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, 114 South 3 ^rd St. Harlan, KY 40831.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday (June 21) in the Chapel of  Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Private Burial will follow in the Ledford Family Cemetery at Cawood, KY.

Casketbearers will be Rick Fox, Don Parsons, Scott Parsons, Matt Nunez, Will Miller, and Matt Fox
