Gene was reunited with his loving wife and other half, Bernadine, in their heavenly home on September 8th, 2025.
Gene and Bernadine both had hearts to serve and love. Fixing meals together, loving all of their families, being great neighbors and friends. Any time someone asked for the slightest of things, if they couldn’t help, they were working on finding someone that could. They enjoyed nothing more than watching their boys grow up to become husbands and fathers. They were so proud of the men that they raised their boys to be and loved seeing their grandbabies grow. Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.
Gene was always wanting to help anyone he could. He would give you the shirt off his back, his last dollar, or a word of advice from his own life experiences. He was always asking about everyone else, always worried about helping others and the best way to help them. He was mostly known for three things, one of the twins that worked at the Village Center Mall, Santa Clause at the Village Center Mall, or the assistant chief of the Wallins Volunteer Fire Department where he proudly served his community for 35 years. “The twins” absolutely love all of the Bennett family, but especially Mrs. Patty Bennett and we are so thankful for the friendship and fellowship that blossomed from their years of working with them.
Along with his loving wife of 33 years, ready to welcome him to his heavenly home, his mother Annetta Green, sister Edna Walters, brother William Green and best friend who was like a brother Bo Blevins.
Left here to cherish all of the wonderful memories made on Earth are his loving children, Matt Blanton, Micheal Green and Gene Green, also his “daughters he didn’t have” that he loved just as much, Ashley Blanton, Tashawna Green and Rebecca Green. He also leaves behind his best friend and twin brother Elton “Dean” Green, brother Joe Green and wife Rose, and Donnie Green, sister Angie Bailey. Special in laws, Bo and Mae Hensley and Regina Hensley and friends who were family, James, Jeremy and Cheryl Blevins and Anthony Roark.
He also leaves behind the strings that held his heart, his beautiful grandchildren he cherished more than gold… Matthew and Jett Blanton, James, EverLynn and Alice Green, and Ava, Liam, Braxton and Oaklynn Green. These precious children were talked about everywhere he would go. When he would enter a place, by the time he left, everyone there knew all about his grand babies and could see just how precious of a gift Gene saw them as. His title as “Papaw” was the title that he held the most near and dear to his heart and he filled that role fully. He always had open arms, a listening ear, and a soft voice to be able to hear them and love him with everything he had. They were his shining pride. Proverbs 17:6 Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their father.
He leaves a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
Come to me, all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:28-29
