Donald Lee Deaton, 78 of Sunshine, Harlan, Kentucky passed away Friday, September 25, 2015 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol, TN.  Donald was a native of Harlan County, Born August 21, 1937 son of the late Barney and Virginia Rains Deaton.

He served as executive director of the Housing Authority of Harlan for 43 years.  He was a graduate of Harlan High School, a member of Harlan Masonic Lodge 879, a Shriner, a Kentucky Colonel, as well as several other various organizations.  He attended the Church of God.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Deaton; and second wife, Gayle Deaton.

Surviving are his children, Barney Edward (Marylin) Deaton of Harlan, Vickie Deaton of Harlan, and Donald Lee (Desta) Deaton, II of Harlan; grandchildren, Brittany (John) Wilson, Mariah Deaton, and Tiffany (Chris) Collins; great-grandchildren, Olivia Wilson, Easton Wilson, Zacharie Wilson, and Sebastian Collins; brother, Morris (Phyllis) Deaton of Harlan; and sister, Bonnie Phillips of Harlan.  Two nieces, several cousins, other relatives, many friends including special friends, Ken Moody of Harlan and Clair Stines of Rio Vista also survive.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 27 from 2:00-5:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, September 28, at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.  The Reverends Jerry Collins and Randy Hoskins will officiate the services.  Music will be provided by Jason Collins.

Interment will follow the funeral in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith Kentucky.  Carl Moody, Bud Asher, Bob Asher, James Carr, David Hobbs, and Dennis Garrett will serve as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers include Ken Moody, Otis Doan, Jr., Jim Halcomb, Randy Hoskins, and Curtis Browning. Masonic Rites will be observed by Harlan Lodge #879 F & AM.
