Donald Ray Belcher, age 67, of Pennington Gap, Virginia, passed away Saturday evening (November 25, 2023) at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side.
A native of Lee County, VA, he was born March 14, 1956 a son of the late Herbert Belcher and Ellen Isom Belcher Lemar (Sammy).
He was a member of St. Charles Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Pennington High School and received a Bachelors Degree from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tennessee. He was a teacher at St Charles Elementary School for 2 years and was a coal miner with over 25 years of service at Powell Mountain Coal Company. His greatest passion was working with the youth as a longtime little league football and basketball coach, with nearly 30 years of service at Jonesville.
Preceded in death by his parents and also a brother: Roger Belcher.
He is survived by a brother: Randy Belcher and Joyce Deaton and a sister: Rosharon Blevins and 2 sisters in law: Sharon Belcher and Sheila Belcher along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members along with a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be Wednesday evening at 7 PM in the chapel of the Pennington Gap Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Davis, Jr officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 preceding the service. Committal services will be Thursday morning at 11AM at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway. It is requested that family and friends meet at the funeral home at 10:20 to go in procession to the cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be all his former football and basketball players.
