David Wayne Jones, 69 of Cawood, KY passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday August 3, 2025 at his home surrounded by family.
David was born January 31, 1956 in Harlan to the late Eldon and Margaret Jones. He was a Proud Veteran of the United States Marine Corp, having served during Vietnam. He was an A/C ordinance Tech A/C Armament Mech. HMA 269 Mag 29 New River NC, having receiving the Rank of Corporal. He received his rifle expert badge M-16, Meritorious Mast and Good Conduct Medal. On March 5, 1974 he was honored as an Honorary Page in the Kentucky House of Representatives by Glenn Freeman and Clay Gay. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Cawood where he served as a Deacon and was a faithful volunteer of Christ Hands in Harlan.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Sarah Jones and Taft and Vera Price; his brother, Frank Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Jones of Cawood; children, Tabitha (Danny) Sage of Kildav, KY, James (Shirley) Jones of Frankfort and Joseph Jones of Cawood; adoptive daughter in the Lord, Christine Collins of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Isaiah Sage, Cassie Sage, Lelia Pace, Emily Jones ; brother, Michael (Linda) jones of Harlan; sisters, Edwina Jones of Cawood and Robin (Jim) Key of Knoxville, TN. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Wednesday at the Friendship Baptist Church of Cawood with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Russell Shoemaker officiating.
Burial will be at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Mountain Home, TN. with Full Military Honors being observed. Date and Time will be announced as soon as its available.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Todd Middleton, Bryan Toll, Jacob Shoemaker, Kevin Doan, Jason Brassfield, Pete Broersman, Mitch Huff, Rocky Noe, Jake Spivey, Jason Mills, Terry Madison, Isaiah Sage and the Men of Friendship Baptist Church of Cawood.
In lieu of flowers the family ask memorials be made to Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 763, Harlan, KY to help ease the burden of funeral expenses.
