Charles "Charlie" Hensley

August 2, 1941 — April 10, 2018

Charles E “Charlie” Hensley went to be with his Lord and Savior April 10, 2018 at the Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard. He was a member of the Harlan Christian Church where he served as a deacon, and then an elder for many years.

In his younger years Charlie was a trombone player in the Harlan High School Marching and Concert Band. He enjoyed both listening to and making music. Charlie was also a member of the Harlan Community Band.

Charlie was a United States Army Veteran, having served his country during the Vietnam War. He had a great loving devotion to God, his country, his family and friends. He and his ex-wife Dianne were members of the Swingin’ Mountaineers square dance club and danced with them for many years.

Charlie was also an active ham radio operator and enjoyed his friends and contacts on the air.

Charlie spent most of his life working in the field of construction. He was a crane operator and for many years he worked at Hensley Harlan Construction and Lee Steel of Harlan.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Edith Campbell Hensley, his brothers Leroy Hensley, James “Jim” Hensley (Sonnie), and sister in law Pauline Hensley.

He is survived by his sons, Bryan K Hensley (Elizabeth), Christopher “Kit” Hensley, and Timothy H Hensley (Tabatha).  He is also survived by his grandchildren Chris Owens (Cassie), Nicholas Hensley, Clara E Hensley, Silas C Hensley; one great granddaughter Cheslee J Owens; his brothers, Wayne C. Hensley and Gary Hensley; he leaves nieces, nephews, other relatives to mourn his passing.

Visitation will be on Monday (April 16) from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel with Rev. Charles Morris officiating.

Graveside services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday (April 17) at the Resthaven Cemetery in Keith. Military rites will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.
