Longtime Harlan Businessman Carl Ed Giles, 90, of the Sunshine Community in Harlan left this life on Sunday evening of October 25, 2026 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.

  He was the owner of Harlan Self Storage, and retired owner of Harlan Ready Mix, and Giles Moving & Storage Company. He was a 65 year member of the Harlan Lodge 879 F & AM where he had served as Pastmaster. He was a duel member of Nolan Lodge 806 F & AM, Harlan York RIte Bodies-Chapter Council, and Commandery for 64 years. member of the Oleika Shrine in Lexington for over 60 years. Harlan Co. Shrine Club, Harlan Chapter 297 OES, Elks and Moose Lodge. He also held the distinction of being a Kentucky Colonel. He attend the Harlan Methodist Church.

  He is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Thelma Giles, His wife Willa Jean Giles. His son James Giles. His sister Janet Gilliam and her husband Carl Gilliam and his sister Barbara Jean Giles.

  Carl is survived by his daughter, Katrenia Taylor (Matt Taylor) of Harlan, KY. Grandson, Matthew Taylor (Hope Taylor) of Harlan, KY. Daughter in law Jean Giles of Columbia SC; Granddaughters, Kristen Talley (Scott Talley) of Lexington, KY and Kim Giles of Columbus, SC. His Great Grandchildren; Kayla Talley, Natalee Taylor, Olivia Talley, Catherine Talley, Caroline Taylor, and McKinley Taylor.

  He is also survived by his niece Brenda Adams (David Adams) of Big Stone Gap, VA. A very special friend Linda Gail Ledford and special cousin Richard "Dick" Edwards. He leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.

  Visitation will be on Friday October 30 from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Anderson Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

  Funeral will follow at 1:00 pm in the chapel at Anderson Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Hale officiating.

  Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, KY. Masonic Rites will be observed by the Harlan Lodge 879 F & AM.

  Serving as Pallbearers will be Jerry Phillips, JC Cawood, Scott Talley, Dane Ledford, David Adams, Jack Lundy, Matthew Grubb and Jeff Phillips.
