Bill Messer, 74 of Loyall went home to his Lord and Savior on Saturday Aug. 30, 2014 at his home.

Bill was born July 13, 1940 in Harlan Co., KY to the late Alex and Ocia Messer. He retired in 2000 from Kentucky Utilities after 34 and ½ years of service. He was a member of the Cawood Church of God. He loved reading his Bible, going to the beach and spending time with his family especially his 2 grandchildren. He was a Veteran of the United States Army.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ben H., Woodrow, Ruben, Don, and Sydney Messer; sisters, Hazel Stone, Margaret Irvin, and Dorothy Stewart.

He leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Jessie Clem Messer of Loyall; his son, Tim (Kim) Messer of Baxter; 2 grandsons, Matthew Messer of Lexington and Lucas Messer of Baxter; 2 brothers, Blane Messer of Cawood, and Fred “Ted” Messer of Ohio; he leaves several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Judy Clem of Loyall, other relatives and many friends, including his neighbors, Mike and Terri Kelly of Loyall to mourn his passing.

Visitation will be 5 until 8:00 pm Tuesday (Sept. 2) at the Cawood Church of God. Funeral services will follow at 8:00 pm with Rev. Danny Overton, Rev. Jimmy Thomas, and Rev. John Carter officiating.

Gravesides services will be held 11:00 am Wednesday (Sept. 3) at the Resthaven Cemetery with Orville Clem, Elbert Clem, John Clem, Jason Clem, Matthew Messer, Keith Messer, Mike Kelly, and Johnny Pennington, Jr serving as Pallbearers. Military Rites will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jack Anderson, Mike Anderson, Danny Williams, Garrett Lewis, Curtis Frazier, Allen Sutton, and all of the other employees of Kentucky Utilities that worked alongside of Bill.
